headaches … is there something to be done about it?

I am here speaking on the behalf of my mother and not myself.  She has been experiencing for quite some months a persistent sort of headache which occurs mostly in the morning. Sometime it gets so intense she gets nauseous and vomits continuously.

The only sort of medicament that seems to work with her is ZOMIG, but even this one is starting to lose its effect, since she takes it on a regular (even daily) basis.

She has a rather stressful life and she has recently gone through a marital separation process. Nevertheless, the headaches have started even before this last event … they probably just got worse during and thereafter.

After the headache is gone, she gets very dizzy and this sensation lasts for most of the day.

She also has an eye problem and her eyeglass’s graduation has recently gotten bigger. Nevertheless, the ophthalmologist said the headaches probably had little to do with her eye condition.

I know headaches can have a vast array of possible causes, but I’m starting to get very preoccupied with her actual condition and I feel extremely impotent.

Is it possible to get some advice? I know the above information is very limited but I can always add something to it if further questions are asked.

Thank you very much in advance.

Well, for one, she can’t take that Zomig every day, only 3 days a week or she will get rebound headaches. I wish I could help more.
I get daily headaches too and Every day is a struggle, i just take it one day at a time.
I have to watch what I eat cause they can cause migraines. the weather can have something to do with it and we can’t control
    that.

I have had really bad migraines during stressful times, like a seperation for 15 months and before that. I wish I could help more.
    How old is she??
    take care

I suffered for months with the dizziness and nausea also. I never even associated it with migraines. A coworker finally did after I ended up in the emergency room from work.

Anyway……..the best advice I can give you is to get your mom to a good neurologist! They are SO GOOD at dealing with this sort of thing and managing pain.

sometimes i can’t tell if it is the migraines or the meds i am taking for the migraines. i know i get dizziness and disoriented/can’t focus, with them. i normally only get nauseous with my bad ones

and i have had to go thru a few neuros to find the one that helps me, so don’t let any one doc tell you this is how it ought to be though either.

I joined here for a friend and have been reading a lot to help her. I’ve read that many times a women’s headaches can be caused by fluctuations in hormones. Considering that your mother is around the usual age for menopause, I’m wondering if her changing hormone levels could play a part. (Of course, I have no idea if she had an early menopause, so this may not be it.) Just something to investigate. I found some very good info. on the National Headache Foundation’s webpage. Good luck!

I have suffered with severe nausea for the almost six years that I have dealt with the migraines. I know that certain meds definitely increase the nausea. Just recently did it occur to me that it could be from the Endometriosis, but I just had surgery three weeks ago and I am still having the nausea. So, unfortunately it has for sure been the migraines all along. I can not take Phenergan or Compazine or pretty much any other anti-nausea med because it literally tears up my stomach so I take “Tigan”, and it seems to work pretty good.
