My Doctor gives me Vicoden to take when I feel like I need to go to the ER.? He wants me to stay out of the ER if possible.? When I went there they would not give me any pain meds at all, just droperidol and something for nausea (which didn’t even work for me and I had a terrible reaction to.)? I also have as a “rescue” prednisone.? That is the only thing that gets me out of a?4 plus day nightmare.? But I don’t take the full dose I take as little as possible because of the horrible feelings it gives me (shaky etc)??Benedryl helps me when?jittery and I was told (for me) by my Doc., that it is fine to take when taking steroids.? Of course check with your Doctor.
I noticed that you mentioned Benadryl (Diphenhydramine). Many years ago I could take that and get some help from it but, there’s another side to it that everyone should be aware of.
Diphenhydramine has a 48 hour half-life. So, 2 days later half of a single dose is still in your system. If you take it according to the directions for even a few days, you can end up with a ton of it in your system. I think that they now put something on the packaging about not taking it for more than a few days.
Anyway, I just wanted to put the word out that its easily possible to become toxic because of the long half-life of some medications.
Wow, I don’t know anything about what you posted.? All I know is my Doctor (migraine specialist) put me on Benedryl to sleep at night (to take everynight if needed)? He told me it was the safest thing to take for sleep.? I never took it around the clock.? Just once a day at night and maybe one pill (half a dose) during the day for shaky jittery side effects of meds.? I think Everyone is so different and for me it works.? Lot of meds like Topomax do nothing for me in
preventing my migraines.? And I have no side effects from Benedryl. I am not disagreeing with you, I am just stating my experience.
